is a familiar face in Laredo’s theatrical community. Since high school, she has been cast in fun and interesting roles in numerous musicals, including Zorba (1972)Once Upon A Mattress(1975); Man of La Mancha (1971 and 1976); Godspell (1977) Funny Girl (1972 and 1980) SleepingBeauty (1978); South Pacific (1979); Into The Woods (1990); Nunsense (1991); Nunsense II (1993). She most recently was a sensation as Evilene in LTGI’s production of The Wiz (2009) She also participated in Laredo Junior College* Opera Workshop productions of Trial by Jury Down In The Valley and various Opera Scenes.
She conducted The Fantastiks(1979); supervised publicity for Gore Vidal’s The Best Man (2008). In 2009, she served as vocal coach and program supervisor for Man of La Mancha. Ramirez just stepped off the stage playing “Dot”inLast Lists of My Mad Mother. This role marked her first non-musical role in almost 40 years of appearing on Laredo stages.Veronica attributes her passion for singing to La Grande Dame, Courtney Slaughter Proffitt, whom she studied with for 12 years. She also studied with Kathy Proffitt, Tim Davis, Billy Craven, Flicka Rahn and Carmen Walker. She is a charter faculty member of the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts, where she taught choir.
She has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with Voice Specialization from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Upon graduation, she opened Bella Nota Vocal Studio for private voice and piano instruction. She is a member of Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Choral Director’s Association (TCDA), Diocese of Laredo Liturgical Committee, cantors the Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and is a Laredo Theater Guild International Board Member.
Ramirez had been singing professionally for 37 years at numerous and various community and social events. In 1995, she recorded and was featured, in a nation-wide Spanish radio commercial for Coca-Cola. Mexico has equally embraced her singing talent at various artistic festivals and social events.She has opened for singing artist the likes of Maria Conchita Alonso, Little Joe y La Familia, and Viki Carr.
“These performances are dedicated to my parents: Raul T. and Emma G.Ramirez who gave me the tools to achieve everything I have accomplished in my life. Also, to Courtney Slaughter Proffitt (my voice teacher) for helping me find “The Sound of Music” in my soul. All three are seated side by side by side, occupying the best seats at each performance.
