 About the Play

Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor is a witty and heartfelt collection of nine short plays inspired by the stories of Anton Chekhov. Each vignette introduces a new set of characters—usually two or three—ranging from a feisty old woman confronting a banker to a father awkwardly guiding his son into adulthood.

The only figure who appears throughout is “The Writer,” a narrator modeled after Chekhov himself, who ties the stories together with humor and insight.

In total, the play features 21 distinct characters (12 male and 9 female), spanning from age 19 to the early seventies. In this production, approximately six versatile actors will take on multiple roles, bringing the colorful world of Simon and Chekhov to life with quick changes and boundless creativity.
