A native Texan, Vernon Carroll has an undergraduate and master’s degree in theatre from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University). After teaching at Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in San Antonio, he went to Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. While working at LSU as a scene designer and technical director, he received a design award from the American College Theatre Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Mr. Carroll then went to Appalachian State University as Director of Technical Theatre and Producing Director of the Appalachian Young People’s Theatre, spent five seasons as a scenic and lighting designer in Charlotte, North Carolina, then returned to teaching at the Northwestern State University of Louisiana, at Natchitoches. In 1994, Mr. Carroll came home to Texas, where he is Dean of Theatre at the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts. Mr. Carroll was the Director for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, at the VMT. Mr. Carroll also directs shows for Laredo Theater Guild International such as Fame, West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast, Oliver, The Wiz, The Sound of Music, Annie, Doubt, Agnes of God, The Tragedy of Macbeth, The Crucible, Hairspray, and Shrek The Musical. When not directing, he also serves as Advisory Director for LTGI and can sometimes be found onstage, playing such roles as President Hochstader in The Best Man, President Roosevelt in Annie, or Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady. Mr. Carroll is a co-founder and President Emeritus of Laredo Theater Guild International. He is married to Dr. Mary Grace Carroll, Director of Piano Studies at VMT. They have two children, Patrick, a musician and theatre artist, and Kathryn, a dancer, musician, actress and student of theatre at Texas State University.

Linda López Howland is thrilled to co-produce the 6th play in the Class on Stage Series, LTGI’s production of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Always interested in the performing arts, her involvement in Laredo’s theater community began years ago as a volunteer at her daughter’s various theatrical performances. Linda’s theatrical relationship started with her debut as Alice Russell in LTGI’s season opener of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man in 2008. Since then, she has remained active with LTGI in such supportive roles as Assist Producer of Man of La Mancha (2009) and Bodas de Sangre (2012). Linda was the Producer of Doubt (2010), Agnes of God (2011) and The Foreigner (2011); Shrek, The Musical (2015); The Diary of Anne Frank (2015) and as Costumer on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew (2010). Additionally, she played the roles of M’Lynn in LTGI’s Steel Magnolias (2013) and Lady Macduff in Shakespeare’s Macbeth (2011) and Sis in Last Lists of My Mad Mother (2010). – You could say she followed in her daughter’s footsteps! A native Laredoan, Linda loves her community, its people, and its unique culture. She currently serves on the board of LTGI as President; she is a past president of the Children’s Advocacy Center, past president of The Luncheon Club, and is a member of the Society of Martha Washington. In fact, in 2017, Ms. Howland and her husband, Doug, will portray Martha Washington and General George Washington for the 120th Washington’s Birthday Celebration. She is a graduate of the Leadership Texas Program; is a charter member of the Leadership Laredo Program as well as a member of the first ever class of Leadership Laredo. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, she has been an active real estate broker for the past 29 years. Linda and her husband, Doug have two children of whom they are immensely proud. To the young actors in the cast, she would like to say “Believe in the process that is theatre; it is a journey, and the life skills you develop as a result, will stay with you the rest of your life.”

Karen Mejía is the Financial Director of The Blue Top Companies, providing land surveying and printing services in South Texas. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the third time she has served as Producer for the LTGI Class on Stage Series, previously having produced The Crucible and The Diary of Anne Frank. She served as Assistant Producer for Steel Magnolias and Hairspray and as Costumer for Shrek The Musical. A lifelong Texan, she was graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a major in History. Karen moved to Laredo 23 years ago and married the wonderfully incredible Deacon Henry Mejía. Together they have three talented children: Sarah, a Junior in the Mighty Longhorn Band at United High School; Miguel, a Freshman Business major here at Texas A&M International University; and Alejandro, a Junior Physics and Electrical Engineering major at The University of Texas at Austin.

Marco González (Quince) is the Artistic Director of Laredo Theater Guild International and Audio/Video Production teacher at J.W. Nixon High School. He is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Radio/TV/Film. His directing credits include LTGI’s recent production of The Diary of Anne Frank (2015), LTGI’s The 39 Steps (2014), LTGI’s Romeo & Juliet (2013) and Imago Theatre’s By the Bog of Cats (2011). When not involved in community theater, Marco co-directs Nixon High School’s UIL One-Act Play with former mentor, now colleague José Flores. Last year, the pair advanced to the Area level with their all-female production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. In 2013, they directed Nixon’s history-making production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, the first One-Act Play from Laredo to advance to the State level in 50 years where Kathryn Carroll (Viola) was awarded the Samuel French Outstanding Performer Award. Marco’s notable forays into film include interning at The Weinstein Company in Los Angeles, CA, attending the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT, and working in production on many local short and feature films. Actively involved in theater for over fifteen years, Marco’s credits on stage include LITE Production’s Side Man (Ziggy), LLT’s Measure for Pleasure (Sir Peter Lustforth), LTGI’s The Foreigner (Rev. David Marshall Lee), LITE Production’s Beat. A Play on Words (Actor 7), LTGI’s Bodas de Sangre (Woodcutter) and LTGI’s The Crucible (Rev. Samuel Parris).

Stephanie Solis Schnyder is a veteran in Laredo’s theatre community, has worked, both as an actor and in production, with LCC’s opera workshop, LLT, and LTGI under the direction of Dr. Joseph Crabtree, Vernon Carroll, José Flores, Marco González among others. Stephanie’s most recent role was Mrs. Simpson (The Who’s Tommy). Recent roles include Edith Frank (The Diary of Anne Frank), Wicked Witch and chorus (Shrek The Musical), María (Bless Me Ultima) and Marty (Grease). Ms. Schnyder has appeared on stage as Ann Putnam (The Crucible, Class on Stage), La Mujer de Leonardo (Bodas de Sangre), and Antonia (Man of La Mancha). She has portrayed Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Bobbi (Some Girls), Elaine (Arsenic and Old Lace), and Dominique du Monaco (Lucky Stiff). Other roles include Bobbi (Some Girls), Lucy (Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), Lily St. Regis (Annie), and many others. Ms. Schnyder directs the Choir and UIL One Act Play at Lamar Middle School. A Midsummer Night's Dream is Stephanie’s debut as Stage Manager, and she is excited to take on this project as part of the Class On Stage series, learning from great mentors and expanding her knowledge in every aspect of theatre possible. This time, she gets to call “Showtime.” Welcome to the theater and enjoy the show!

Casandra Canales has been participating in Laredo’s community theater for over ten years and has been a part of LTGI for over four years. Her latest roles include Abigail Williams in LTGI’s The Crucible, and Juliet in LTGI’s Romeo and Juliet. Most recently, Canales assisted directed Laredo Little Theater’s Noises Off alongside Karol Batey. To my three costars, my director, and my producer; it’s been a pleasure working with you guys.

Ricardo Cortez is beginning his 22nd year as Director of Guitar Studies at the Vidal M Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. A graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program, Ric has performed at the Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi since 1988, along with other jazz festivals in San Antonio, Brownsville and internationally in Holland and Switzerland. Ric enjoys being involved in theater productions and has been a pit performer in several LTGI productions such as Annie, Hairspray, Shrek and Tommy. Aside from orchestrating the music for this production, he composed and arranged music for Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, which was performed by the Nixon High School UIL One-Act PlayGroup in 2014.

Since moving to Laredo over 20 years ago, Mary Grace Carroll, together with her husband Vernon, son Patrick and daughter Kathryn, have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the lively artistic community of this unique border city. Currently, Director of Piano Studies at the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts, Mary Grace is founding member of Laredo Musical Theater International (the predecessor to Laredo Theater Guild International) and has participated in numerous LMTI and LTGI productions in various capacities. While living in Corpus Christi, Mary Grace was asked to arrange incidental music for the Harbor Playhouse’s production “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare. The “Fairy Songs” mark her second contribution to this genre, and Mary Grace is humbled to add a musical dimension to this magnificent and breathtaking “Class on Stage” production.

Born and raised outside of Kansas City, Missouri, Telissa Lueckenotte Molano (Set Designer) is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Urban Design with studies in both Rouen and Paris, France. After working for two major architectural firms and having migrated south down Interstate 35, she met her husband Juan in Dallas, Texas and followed him eventually back to Laredo. Fifteen years of drinking Laredo water and five seasons of collaborating with LTGI, she has worked with fellow members to create sets for The Who’s Tommy, Shrek, Cinderella, Diary of Anne Frank, and My Fair Lady. Ms. Molano has also worked on Hairspray, Romeo and Juliet, Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding), God of Carnage, The Crucible, Macbeth, The 39 Steps and Bless Me, Ultima. She has also collaborated with the Society of Martha Washington to produce the 2015 Colonial Ball Set. She is a partner in the architectural practices of Redline Architecture +Metaform Studio Architects. Her family includes her partner-in-crime, Juan, her dogs Petey and Abbey and her daughter, Mariela, who is an incredible stagehand. She is blessed to be a board member for Casa de Misericordia and LTGI as well as past board member of Laredo American Institute of Architects.

Nicolle Figueroa recently returned to Laredo after finishing a BA in Irish Music and Dance from the University of Limerick in Ireland. After a four-year acting break, Nicolle returns to LTGI! For this production, Nicolle provided music and dance counseling. Nicolle would like to thank the production team for the opportunity to spread Celtic music and dance to Laredo!

Brian Manning-Spindt (Oberon), LTGI Board member, architect, and entrepreneur, began at 15 with a few unexpected ballet classes that turned into a 12-year professional dancing career. Dancing for Waldo Gonzalez & Danza-Jazz in Puerto Rico, Ballets-Contemporaneo de Santo Domingo and Chicago the Musical (Puerto Rico) in 2003. Arriving in Laredo 3 years ago Brian began performing again in My Fair Lady, The 39 Steps and most recently as Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank.

Henry Mejia is the immediate past president of Laredo Theater Guild International. He has performed on stage in LTGI’s productions of Cinderella, Macbeth, Annie, and The Importance of Being Earnest. He finds himself at home, however, working backstage with props, a role he enjoys most in shows. A native Laredoan, Henry is a professional land surveyor, businessman, and Deacon at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. He enjoys family activities with his wife, Karen, and their wonderful children, Alejandro, Miguel and Sarah.

This year Daniel begins his tenure as Martin High School’s Theatre Arts Director. He previously taught Theatre Arts at Memorial Middle School where for the past ten years, he and his students built a highly successful and award-winning theatre program. Daniel is proud of all his students both past and present who are a part of this year’s Class On Stage production! A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Daniel's third Class On stage project. He has served on the LTGI board since 2014; however, his backstage roots with LTGI go back to 2007 when he stage-managed his first show, Oliver! His other stage managing credits include The Wiz (LMTI), The Best Man (LTG), Man of La Mancha, The Sound of Music, Annie, Steel Magnolias, Hairspray, Bless Me Ultima, Shrek (LTGI), and Teatro Chicano de Laredo’s original production of Isaura and the Virgin, for which he also was the assistant director. Additional backstage credits include The Diary of Anne Frank (LTGI), sound work forThe 39 Steps (LTGI), and light design for VMT’s inaugural musical production, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Daniel would like to thank his mentor, Mr. Vernon Carroll for his guidance and inspiration throughout the years. He gives his most special thanks to his parents, Roberto and Gloria Castillo, for their invaluable love and support.

(Theseus and Fight Director) has designed, directed and/or produced over 100 productions in his career, most of which were during his time with the Army in Germany from 1984-2006, where he served as the Entertainment Director at one of the bases. He has also served as the manager of the Franklin Park Visual & Performing Arts Center in Purcellville, Va. and as technical director for the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville. He is currently the Theatre Director at the LCC Martinez Fine Arts Center. William holds an MFA in directing from the University of Minnesota and has received many international awards and recognition in theater, to include the James T. Martin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Entertainment, the Irving Berlin Award for Outstanding Entertainment Programming and several Army and international medals. Local audiences know his work as director for many productions at LCC and as set and light designer for the Opera Workshop productions, as well. William has served as Technical Director for LTGI for Annie, Hairspray, Bless Me,Ultima and Shrek, and as Fight Director for Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet. He also appeared on stage as Orville in Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got The Will.

Deborah M. Scaggs (Hippolyta) is a professor at TAMIU. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, with specialization in writing, rhetoric, and early modern British literature, with an emphasis in Shakespearean studies. She grew up near St. Louis and has lived in Laredo for 10 years. She was an active Thespian in her high-school and college years, with notable roles as Esmeralda in Hunchback of Notre Dame, Alice in You Can’t Take It with You, and Ellen in Bloody Jack. This is her first LTGI performance.

Marc Moore (Egeus, Day Performances) has been an HEB Secret Shopper, a forklift operator, and has lead-soldered computer boards. Working as a janitor paid for his Bachelor’s degree in Education from UTPA in Edinburg, TX. He’s worked backstage on LLT’s productions of Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, and Jesus Christ Superstar. He student directed The Day They Shot John Lennon at United HS. He’s been Geoffrey Chesmond in The Rocking Horse Winner, Maurice Joyant in The Times and Appetites of Toulouse-Lautrec, Senex in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Lionel Mueller in Frankenstein, Quentin in Audience, and has played Decker twice in Bleacher Bums. When not drumming, writing, drawing, taking pictures, and participating in the Laredo Border Slam, he teaches 5th grade in his off time. After caring for his father who passed away earlier this year, he auditioned on a whim. This is his first role in twenty years.

Carolina Lozano (Hermia) is delighted to return to the stage with LTGI after her last appearance in The Who’s Tommy. Having caught theater fever, she is excited to perform in her first Shakespeare play. With eighteen years of musical training and a love for theater, Carolina looks forward to future performances on the stage where she can share her joy of music and theater with the Laredo community.

Jesus Guzmán, Jr. (Lysander) is a currently a junior studying Biology in Texas A&M International University. This is his second appearance with LTGI, past shows he has been part of include The Who’s Tommy (Chorus) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (McMurphy). He would like to thank LTGI for once again for giving him this great opportunity to bring to life wonderful story for the community of Laredo to experience.

Axel Rodríguez is a senior at United High School and has been involved with the theatre community for two years now. His prior roles include Simba in LITE Production’s Lion King, Jr. and Henry Saunders in UHS’s One Act Play, Lend Me A Tenor, and most recently: LTGI’s The Who’s Tommy. He’s grateful for once again taking part in an LTGI production.

Harper Zimmermann (Helena) is a senior at JW Nixon High School/ Vidal M. Treviño Magnet School of Communication and Fine Arts. She has been doing theater for 10 years and has been in 16+ shows including Into the Woods Jr. (Cinderella), Haroun and the Sea of Stories (Soraya), Hamlet (Osric) and Aladdin Jr. (Narrator) but this is her first LTGI show. She is very excited and honored to be a part of this show!

April Salazar (Puck), 17, is a junior at J.W. Nixon High School, where she is a trumpet player in the Mustang Band, and a student at Vidal M. Treviño, where she studies theater arts. Some of her past roles include Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (UIL middle school One Act), Tony in Bless Me, Ultima (LTGI), Jack in Into the Woods (BALL), and Snoopy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (VMT). She has also run the backstage light board at her UIL One Act in Hamlet and runs the light board at VMT for special events and dances. She would like to give many thanks to her grandmother and Daniel Castillo for supporting her and her love for theater.

Susan Gardiner (Titania) is thrilled to return to the stage after a 15 year hiatus. Studying acting at Brigham Young University, she performed in many plays, including The Children’s Hour (Mrs. Mortar), Richard III (Queen Margaret), and Three Sisters (Olga). She dedicates her performance to the men in her life - her husband, Andrew and their son, Eli.

Jose Flores (Bottom) made his LTGI debut as a director in 2009 with Man of La Mancha, and was honored to direct again in 2012, Blood Wedding/Bodas de sangre. From time to time, he does enjoy acting in a play, having made his LTGI acting debut as Charlie in The Foreigner (2011). As an LTGI Board member, he is very proud to once again get the chance to participate in one of LTGI’s Class on Stage Productions, having previously appeared in The Crucible (Judge Hawthorne), Romeo and Juliet (Friar Lawrence), Macbeth (Porter), and The Diary of Anne Frank (Mr. Van Daan). He is a firm believer in the program, and is very happy to participate in the education of Laredo students. Being the theatre arts teacher at J.W. Nixon High School for the past 12 years has given him the great joy of seeing the program and his former students grow. Some very special experiences were representing United States High School Theatre at the world famous Edinburgh, Scotland Fringe Festival in 2013, and representing Laredo High School Theatre at the 2014 UIL Texas State One-Act Play Championships (co-directing with former student, and LTGI Artistic Director Marco González).

José Treviño (Flute) is a 19 year old second year student at TAMIU pursuing his BA in English with an Education Certification. This is his third appearance in a LTGI production. Jose has been an actor for 8 years and his roles include: Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet both written by the Bard himself! Other roles include Peter Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank and Ten Year Old Tommy in The Who’s Tommy.

Javier Sánchez (Starveling) is thrilled to be performing in his 5th production with LTGI, having appeared in Oliver!, Hairspray, Shrek and Tommy. Javier is a senior at JW Nixon High School and attends The Vidal M. Treviño School of Communication and Fine Arts. He is very passionate about theater and would love to pursue it in his future. Javier would like to give many thanks to the production team, cast and crew for this amazing experience.

Martin Ramírez (Snout), 18, is a senior at J.W. Nixon and studies theatre at V.M.T. This is the second show he has worked on with LTGI, and has worked with other shows (Vi a Jesus, Un Sueño de Navidad, Shrek the Musical, Seussical, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, and Youre a Good Man, Charlie Brown). He is grateful and thanks God for being given the opportunity to work for this company.

Alejandro Moreno (Snug), 19, graduated from J.W. Nixon High School in 2015. He performed in the One Act Play in his Junior and Senior year. He played Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night, as well as Lord Capulet and Friar Lawrence in Romeo & Juliet. He also studied Classical and Jazz guitar for 3 years at Vidal M. Treviño with Ric Cortez, and Mariachi guitar his Senior year with Billy Thatcher. He currently plays in a Laredo metal band by the name of Taken By Tides, and is already working on their second studio album.
Jack Paul (Mustardseed)

John Maxstadt (Philostrate) is a familiar figure in Laredo theater, having played many roles in LTGI, LLT, LITE, LCC, and TAMIU productions over the past twenty-one years, including Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, and Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady. His most recent roles have been the Specialist in Tommy and Mr. Dussel in The Diary of Anne Frank. John is the parliamentarian of the LTGI Board.

Mark Rodriguez returns onstage in his second LTGI performance. He has stared in LTGI’s Bless Me, Ultima, VMT’s You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Martin Drama’s Everyman, and has crewed for LTGI’s Shrek The Musical and The Who’s Tommy. He is a sophomore at Martin High School and VMT. He would like to thank his parents for their support, the cast for such an amazing experience, his One Act family for their love, and his friend Maggie for inspiring him to begin theatre.

Elizabeth M. Pérez (Fairy/Mote) is delighted to return to the stage for her third LTGI production. She has previously performed as nurse in The Who’s Tommy and as Miep in the Class on Stage production of The Diary of Anne Frank. She would like to give a very special “Welcome!” to all the students and teachers in attendance. This show is for you!

Marina Medellin (Peaseblossom) is 18 years old and studies at VMT & Nixon High School. The last play she was in was You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown where she played Violet. She’s been in a total of 14 Plays, 3 musicals, and has crewed for 2 shows including a One Act Play clinic.

Mia Gómez (Cobweb) is a 15-year-old sophomore at Martin High School and Vidal M. Treviño Magnet School. This is her first LTGI show, although she has been in Any Body for Tea as Nettie in Christen Middle OAP and in Everyman as Knowledge in Martin OAP. She had an amazing time working on this show and would like to thank Mark Rodríguez for encouraging her to audition. She would also like to thank her best friends, her sister, and her mother for having such patience with rehearsal. Even though this was her first LTGI show, she sincerely hopes it won’t be her last.

Jack is a 15-year-old Sophomore at Nixon and the Vidal M. Trevino School For Fine and Performing Arts (VMT) where he studies theater under the direction of Vernon Carroll. A Midsummer Night’s Dream marks Jack’s third LTGI production having appeared in Shrek The Musical (Young Shrek and Grumpy) and Cinderella (Little Boy). This past summer Jack played the role of Linus in VMT’s production of You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Jack is grateful to be a part of this talented cast and thanks to his family and Vernon Carroll for all of their support.

Juan Diego Salazar (Changeling Boy) is a 6th grader at Mirabeau B. Lamar Middle School, aspiring to become a scientist one day. He is delighted to make his debut in A Midsummer Night Dream as Changeling Boy. Juan Diego enjoys spending time with his family, participating in his school choir, and in numerous U.I.L. activities. He also is part of a local basketball team that competes statewide on a monthly basis, although he will be putting basketball on hold to try his hand on acting
